Honorable Mention For Ghosts Laurie Byro I invented you. Another ghost I must not touch. I conjured you out of moonlight when stars salt the dark lake of sky. Slippery Merman. You tried to swim away, but I sang sad songs, sat on rocks to tempt you. Reluctant Savior. I washed your feet with my hair, dirtied it blond, dried it in morning sun. Gypsy King. I danced in wild-fire eyes, bound my ankles with scarves, stood on tip-toe to kiss your mouth. We pray to Northern Lights and when the snows fall, you wrap me in your fur. Wear me like a diamond on your body. Jesus, I never take you in vain. I walk the streets of Jerusalem, eyes fevered with longing. I sit on the porch and wait. Need no help to hunt you down. Drunken Ghost, I will not answer stop whispering. Your voice without a face, you gone again to moonlight. You who never really are.
